Stellantis Unveils Electric Vehicle Platform for Jeep and RAM Models, Boasting a 500-Mile Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Range and a 690-Mile Range Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (REEV) Range

Electric Vehicle Platform for Jeep and RAM brands guarantees a range of 500 miles for Battery Electric Vehicles and 690 miles for Range Extender Electric Vehicles.

Stellantis N.V., the multinational automobile manufacturing company, has introduced the STLA Frame platform, marking a significant step in the automotive industry's shift towards electric vehicles (EVs). This innovative architecture is designed specifically for large, capable electric trucks and SUVs, balancing structural strength, performance, fast charging, and advanced technology integration to cater to both commercial and consumer demands in the EV truck segment.

The STLA Frame is purpose-built for large electric vehicles with body-on-frame construction, offering strong yet lightweight structural integrity. It supports various battery pack sizes, including large ones, such as the 168-kWh battery pack used in the Ram 1500 REV, providing an estimated 350 miles of range. This demonstrates the platform's capacity for high-energy storage suitable for long-range electric trucks.

All-wheel drive is standard on vehicles using the STLA Frame, improving traction and performance. The platform also delivers high performance and towing capacity, with configurations capable of delivering 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, rated to tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry a payload of 2,700 pounds.

The STLA Frame is engineered for rapid recharging, with 800-volt architecture enabling fast charging up to 350 kW. This allows users to gain about 100 miles of range in roughly 10 minutes, facilitating rapid recharging critical for truck and SUV usage patterns. The platform also offers bi-directional charging capability, enabling vehicles like the Ram 1500 Ramcharger to function as mobile power units that can charge other EVs or provide emergency power supply, increasing utility beyond just driving.

Advanced technology and luxury features are integrated into the STLA Frame, such as the Uconnect 5 system with a large touchscreen, and autonomous driving aids like Hands-free Highway Assist. The platform also showcases design flexibility and aerodynamic improvements, as demonstrated by the Ram 1500 REV's altered front fascia with no large grille openings to improve aerodynamics, and unique front and rear styling to accommodate features like a front trunk ("frunk").

The STLA Frame is tailored for North American markets and beyond, and it offers a versatile propulsion lineup, including battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) options. It is planned to be compatible with internal combustion, hybrid, and hydrogen power. The platform's high-strength steel construction boosts durability while keeping weight low.

As part of Stellantis' Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, the STLA Frame joins the previously announced STLA Medium and STLA Large platforms. These modular platforms offer interchangeability in battery chemistries, electric drive modules (EDMs), and software, ensuring they remain adaptable for decades to come.

The STLA Frame is designed to be off-road ready, with water fording capabilities up to 24 inches. It accommodates advanced suspension systems for a smooth ride on both highways and rugged terrain. The platform is part of Stellantis' electric revolution, providing a robust solution for drivers seeking both power and sustainability.

In summary, the STLA Frame represents a dedicated, innovative architecture focusing on large, capable electric trucks and SUVs. It delivers performance, propelling vehicles from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and supports BEVs with a range of up to 500 miles. REEV configurations on the STLA Frame use a 400-volt system, gaining 50 miles in the same timeframe. The platform also offers a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) system with a range of up to 690 miles. With its focus on capability, the STLA Frame is poised to revolutionise the electric truck and SUV market.
