Electric auto manufacturer BYD is preparing to unveil a high-performance, 3000 horsepower electric supercar.
The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, is set to release a track-focused variant of its popular electric supercar, the Yangwang U9. Known for making affordable electric vehicles, BYD is now aiming high with the Track Edition, boasting an impressive power output of over 3,000 horsepower.
A Powerhouse on Wheels
The Track Edition of the BYD Yangwang U9 is a testament to engineering prowess, featuring a four-pronged powertrain that produces a staggering 2,220 kW (3,019 hp). Each wheel is powered by a 555 kW motor, making this electric hypercar a force to be reckoned with.
Top Speed and Performance
With such a powerful powertrain, it comes as no surprise that the Track Edition is expected to surpass the original model's 0-60 time of 2.36 seconds. While the exact top speed is yet to be officially confirmed, reports suggest it could reach approximately 350 km/h (217 mph), making it one of the fastest electric vehicles in the world.
Design and Aerodynamics
The exterior design of the Track Edition maintains the sleek lines of the standard Yangwang U9 but incorporates styling updates in gloss black, giving it a squared stance optimized for track performance. The car also features a carbon-fiber roof, fixed carbon-fiber rear wing, rear diffuser with adjustable blades, optional carbon-fiber front splitter, and an electric rear wing for enhanced downforce.
Battery and Charging
Powering this beast is an 80-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery with an 800-volt architecture, supporting up to 500 kW fast charging. The car is also expected to offer a range of approximately 280 miles (450 km) under the CLTC cycle, although this figure tends to be optimistic.
Release Date and Pricing
While BYD has not officially confirmed the production or launch date of the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, regulatory filings and reports from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) suggest that the car's release is imminent. Pricing for the Track Edition has not been disclosed as of August 2025.
Setting New Benchmarks
With its impressive power output and anticipated performance, the Track Edition of the BYD Yangwang U9 is poised to set new benchmarks in the high-performance electric vehicle market. The current model retails around $231,000, but with the Track Edition's enhanced capabilities, it's expected to command a premium price.
For those eagerly awaiting the release of this electric hypercar, the wait may soon be over. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to monitor developments surrounding the BYD Yangwang U9 Track Edition.
