Dubai terminals managed by DP World hit a new high, processing an unprecedented 1.3 million vehicles in their operations.

In the shifting landscape of the global automotive industry, DP World, a leading player in logistics, is positioning itself as a critical supporter of sustainable mobility, particularly with the growing trend towards electric vehicles (EVs).

DP World's operations in Dubai, a city aiming to double its economy by 2033 as part of its D33 Economic Agenda, are playing a pivotal role in this transformation. The company's integrated logistics facilities, including Jebel Ali Port and Jafza free trade zone, are at the forefront of this change.

Jebel Ali Port, a significant component of DP World's operations, processed nearly 960,000 vehicles in the recent growth, with Mina Al Hamriya and Mina Rashid also managing a portion of the volume. In 2024, DP World processed a record 1.3 million vehicles across its Dubai terminals, marking a 53.6% increase from the previous year.

Jafza free trade zone hosts over 930 automotive and spare parts companies, making it a hub for the industry. China, Japan, Korea, India, and other key players are contributing to DP World's vehicle trade, with China being the top trading partner, contributing almost 25% of the total vehicle volume.

Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, emphasized Dubai's growing role as a global automotive hub. He highlighted the rising demand for vehicle imports and exports in the Gulf region, which is creating new opportunities for Dubai as a strategic logistics hub due to the changes in the global EV market.

While the article does not provide new insights into China's dominance in EV manufacturing or its impact on global supply chains, it is clear that DP World's commitment to developing state-of-the-art infrastructure to meet the rising demand is reshaping the global supply chains, particularly in the EV sector.

Projections estimate that EVs will surpass internal combustion engine vehicles by 2036, and with DP World's strategic positioning, Dubai is poised to play a significant role in this transition. As the industry continues to evolve, DP World's role in the region is expected to drive economic growth and innovation, further cementing Dubai's status as a global automotive hub.
