Solingen to Discontinue "Mein Solingen" Citizen Account

In a recent communication to its users, the city of Solingen announced the discontinuation of its online citizen account, "Mein Solingen," effective December 31, 2024. The decision comes after the city found the platform to be user-unfriendly and has plans to integrate its services into a comprehensive, centralized service portal.

The email notification sent to users of "Mein Solingen" serves as an official communication about the upcoming shutdown. The city aims to ensure that all users are aware of this change and have ample time to adjust. Most of the citizen account services have already been integrated into the current service portal, with the exception of basic charge notices, which are planned for integration in the near future.

"Mein Solingen" was introduced in 2019 as a central digital platform for accessing municipal services. However, despite its introduction, the use of the platform decreased over time. The city's service portal, which has been online since 2022, already hosts many of the city's services.

The city's Technical Operations (TBS) found "Mein Solingen" to be less user-friendly compared to the current service portal. This decision to discontinue "Mein Solingen" was confirmed due to the provider no longer continuing the platform beyond the end of the year.

Cities that discontinue legacy citizen account systems typically plan gradual migration of remaining services into a centralized service portal to improve user experience, security, and digital accessibility. This often involves clear communication with citizens, phased data and service integrations, and training or support for users on the new platform.

For detailed, current, and official plans regarding the integration of remaining services from the discontinued "Mein Solingen" citizen account into the new service portal of Solingen city, it would be necessary to refer to Solingen city administration communications or their official website.
