Digital Art Projects Invitation: Recto VRso Unveils its Fifth Round
Festival Recto VRso Celebrates 5th Anniversary with Calls for Digital Art Projects
Marking its 5th anniversary from April 12 to 17, 2022, the Recto VRso digital art festival announces two calls for submissions, inviting artists to exhibit their work during the event. This year's theme, "Real environment / Virtual environment," encourages exploration of the relationship between real and virtual spaces and their influence on our perception and interaction with these environments.
The Paradox of Constrained Freedom
In our lives, our surroundings shape and influence us. We choose, create, or adapt to the spaces around us, often finding them familiar yet unpredictable. The link between our bodies and the environment can blur, allowing us to overlook our living spaces on various levels. The creation of virtual environments can challenge these sensations, providing a new lens through which to examine our experiences.
Artistic Exploration Opportunities
Recto VRso offers several avenues for artistic exploration, including the representation of realistic or imaginary environments, abstract, mathematical, or generative virtual spaces, and hybridizations between real and virtual environments. The festival encourages artists to experiment with emerging expressions using virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, immersive devices, interactive interfaces, robotics, multidimensional spatialization, and presence effects.
Art&VR Gallery
Since 2018, the Recto VRso festival has featured international digital artists and artworks in the Art&VR Gallery, an official exhibition showcasing approximately fifteen works selected through an international call for applications. One artist from the gallery is annually recognized with the Recto VRso website Award for outstanding art in the Art&VR category.
In Situ Experimentation
In addition to the Art&VR Gallery, Recto VRso is launching a new call for projects: IN SITU EXPERIMENTATION. This initiative aims to forge a meaningful connection between art practices and three emblematic spaces in Laval, France: the MANAS, the Bateau-Lavoir Saint-Julien, and the Bain Douches. Artists, curators, students, or institutions are invited to take over one of these spaces during a residency, followed by an exhibition on April 12-17, 2022.
The festival seeks immersive and interactive art forms that resonate with the "Real environment / Virtual environment" theme, using cutting-edge technologies such as virtual, augmented, or mixed reality, immersive devices, interactive interfaces, robotics, multidimensional spatialization, and presence effects. Hybrid and transdisciplinary approaches are particularly appreciated.
Those interested in participating should submit their artistic projects in alignment with the festival's 2022 theme. The convergence of real and virtual environments offers a wealth of possibilities for artistic expression and exploration.
- Artists are invited to experiment with various gadgets and technologies, such as virtual, augmented, or mixed reality devices, immersive interfaces, and artificial intelligence, to create immersive and interactive art projects that explore the relationship between real and virtual environments for the Recto VRso festival's IN SITU EXPERIMENTATION call.
- The convergence of real and virtual environments, powered by advanced technology and artificial intelligence, presents numerous opportunities for artistic exploration and innovation, as observed in the Recto VRso festival's calls for digital art projects and the IN SITU EXPERIMENTATION initiative.
