Derby Boosts EV Charging with Nine New Stations at Darley Playing Fields
Derby City Council has boosted local EV charging infrastructure with the installation of nine new chargers at Darley Playing Fields car park. The project, funded by the Sulzer Family Trust, is set to cater to the growing number of electric vehicles in the area.
The chargers, installed in partnership with Historic England due to the site's historical significance, include a mix of 50kW dual rapid chargers and 7kW dual and single fast chargers. This setup allows up to nine cars to charge simultaneously, benefiting residents without off-street parking.
Looking ahead, Midlands Connect predicts a significant increase in EVs in Derby and Derbyshire. By the end of 2030, the number of EVs is expected to surge by 440%, from around 12,000 to over 65,000. This expansion is partly driven by the Department for Transport's Transforming Cities Fund, which has supported similar initiatives nationwide.
The Derby City Council's EV charger installation at Darley Playing Fields car park, funded by the Sulzer Family Trust, is a timely response to the growing demand for electric vehicle charging points. As EV adoption continues to rise, such initiatives will play a crucial role in supporting the transition to cleaner transportation.
