Decade's Worth of Jungle Cakes' Music Compilation: 10 Notable Tracks
Jungle Cakes, the renowned drum and bass (DnB) record label led by Ed Solo and Deekline, is marking its 10th anniversary with a four-week Friday residency at London's premier bass music venue, XOYO.
The residency, which kicked off on July 5, promises an outrageous lineup that encapsulates the raw energy and underground chaos synonymous with Jungle Cakes. Each week, fans can expect a mix of old classics and new releases, as Ed Solo and Deekline have chosen their favourite tracks from the past ten years to celebrate the label's rich history and the evolution of jungle and drum and bass.
One of the chosen tracks is "Ed Solo & Deekline - King of the Bongo", a singalong anthem and the soundtrack to many festival dreams. Another is "General Levy - The General (Ed Solo remix)", a collaboration between MIR crew and Ed Solo that led to an instant dance floor hit. The residency also features "Benny Page & Doktor - Warn Dem", a tune with a next-level serious hook and the fusion of Doktor's soundclash lyricism and Benny's heavy horn sound.
Other notable tracks include "Deekline and Jah Cuzzi - Three Little Birds", a DNB version of the original Bob Marley song approved by the Bob Marley Foundation. "Kaya Fyah, Martial Taktics, MC Det, Ed Solo - She Was Afraid" is a fiery slingshot of positive culture vibes from the rising star Kaya Fyah. "Beat Assassins - Home Grown (Phibes remix)" is another track chosen to celebrate Jungle Cakes' influence and legacy in the bass music world. "Ed Solo & Deekline & AIRGLO - Space" was sent to Ed Solo as a promo from an unknown US artist, while "KLEU - Rudy, A Message To You" is a remix of an "absolute classic" from the Trojan remix project.
Jungle Cakes has developed a reputation as one of the world’s greatest DnB and jungle labels, with a history spanning at least a decade. The label excels not only in releasing influential tracks but also in curating live event experiences that are memorable and community-focused. Key releases and artist debuts continue to push the label’s legacy in the drum and bass world, contributing both to the genre’s roots and its ongoing evolution.
