DC Universe Mastermind, James Gunn, Hints at Mysterious Aquatic Elements

Are you pumped up about what's coming for the DC universe? James Gunn, co-president of the studio, has some intriguing plans up his sleeve! He's busy penning and directing the upcoming Superman flick, and there's also a Batman movie, Green Lantern show, and Supergirl film in the works. But things get a bit murky with regards to characters like The Flash, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

However, Gunn recently dropped a cryptic post on social media that has fans scratching their heads - a fishy symbol paired with a "Merman" emoji. Now, you might jump to the conclusion that this is an Aquaman tease, and while that's possible, there's more to the story.

This is actually the emblem ( flipped, but still recognizable) of a DC organization called ARGUS, which stands for "Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans." Introduced during the New 52 era in 2012, ARGUS is a government department responsible for superhero-related taskforces. They've managed Taskforce X, a.k.a. the Suicide Squad, and other supergroups.

Considering that an Amanda Waller show is in production, led by Viola Davis from the Suicide Squad, and Waller will also appear in the animated series Creature Commandos, this could very well be a hint in that direction.

But what about Aquaman, you ask? The emoji, perhaps? It's all a mystery at the moment. After all, Gunn completed filming Superman a few weeks back and has since moved on to Peacemaker. Given that Peacemaker season two will be intertwined with the Gunn and Peter Safran DC Universe, it's likely this is a Peacemaker season two tease.

As for Aquaman's involvement, well, we'll have to wait until Peacemaker season two, estimated to arrive some time in 2025, to find out for sure.

Moving on, the DC universe isn't done yet! Up next is a Max show called The Penguin, overseen by Gunn and Safran but not part of their universe. Instead, it belongs to the Batman Epic Crime Saga, led by Matt Reeves based on his Robert Pattinson Batman. Don't get it twisted with The Brave and the Bold, a new Batman that connects to Gunn's universe, which doesn't have a release date yet. But Gunn's universe is set to kick off later this year with Creature Commandos on Max, followed by Superman hitting theaters in July 2025.

Stay tuned for updates on Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, the DC Universe, and the future of Doctor Who!
