Costs Associated with Occasional Open-Air Bathing Experiences
Let's Dive into Wiesbaden's Swimming Scene!
Summer's here, and that means cool, refreshing pools! But brace yourself, as the Federation reveals that the average cost to dip your toes in these aquatic playgrounds has spiked a whopping 5.7% from last year.
While you might be feeling the burn in your wallet, it's not all bad news. The prices of swimwear have seen a mixed reaction – men's swimwear seeing a small increase of 0.6%, while women's sports or swimwear has surprisingly decreased by 1.1%. On the broader economic front, consumer prices have risen by 2.1%, making pool entry fees the second-highest increase.
Swimming Pool Proximity
With a chuckle, our statisticians have shared that accessing the nearest pool in Germany rarely takes more than 10 short minutes by car. However, be aware that residents in some remote regions might need a tad extra time, with as many as 20 minutes on the road, especially in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, northern Saxony-Anhalt, and parts of Rhineland-Palatinate.
Let's paint a picture – Germany houses around 2,800 public pool facilities and roughly 570 natural pools! That's plenty of splashy spaces to keep you entertained all summer long!
The Rise of Lifeguards
Interestingly, the number of individuals deciding to become pool veterans – aka, lifeguards – has seen an uptick. In 2023, around 600 individuals took up this noble purpose, marking a hike of 3.0% compared to the previous year. Most of these new recruits – about 67.6% – were men. Over the last decade, the number of new trainees has surged by over a quarter (27.5%).
