China Unveils World's Highest Bridge in Guizhou
China has unveiled another engineering marvel with the opening of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou province. The bridge, which towers 625 meters above a river and gorge, is now the world's highest.
The bridge, which opened to traffic on Sunday, has a staggering main span of 1,420 meters, making it the world's largest-span bridge built in a mountainous area. This feat surpasses the previous record held by the Beipanjiang Bridge, also in Guizhou, which is now the world's second highest at 565 meters. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge's impressive height and span are a testament to China's significant investment in major infrastructure projects in recent decades.
The bridge's construction took over three years to complete. It joins a growing list of record-breaking bridges in Guizhou province, which is now home to the world's two highest bridges. Remarkably, nearly half of the world's 100 highest bridges are located in this province.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, constructed by Chinese engineers, has set new records for height and span in mountainous areas. Its opening further cements Guizhou's place as a leader in bridge engineering. The bridge is now a key part of the province's transportation network, connecting previously isolated communities.
