Cape Verde Launches Tech Hub Aiming to Transform Digital Landscape

Cape Verde has taken a significant step towards digital transformation with the launch of TechPark CV, a €45.59 million tech hub located in the mid-Atlantic region. The project, which spans two campuses in Praia (Santiago Island) and Mindelo (São Vicente Island), aspires to serve as a launchpad for African startups and a bridge between continents in the global digital economy.

Spanning over 2 campuses, TechPark CV currently houses 23 companies and has the capacity to accommodate up to 1,500 workers. The African Development Bank (AfDB) supports the project, aligning with Cape Verde's aim to become a strategic hub for emerging technologies in West Africa.

TechPark CV's focus extends beyond infrastructure to include AI, blockchain, fintech, big data, and IoT. The project is designed to position Cape Verde as a regional digital powerhouse, driving regional digital transformation with the backing of ECOWAS and strong public-private alignment.

Speakers at the launch of TechPark CV include Cape Verde's Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina. Over 300 companies, including Intel, Microsoft, and Smart Africa, are attending the launch, indicating international interest in Cape Verde's tech ambitions.

Carlos Monteiro, President of TechPark CV, stated that the project is not just about building a digital hub, but fostering a community where technology drives economic growth and sustainable development. The location of TechPark CV in the mid-Atlantic region and the spirit of morabeza (Cape Verdean hospitality) are key to its ambitions.

TechPark CV offers attractive fiscal incentives such as a 2.5% corporate tax rate and exemptions from VAT and import duties, drawing both local and foreign direct investment, including from Portugal, Germany, and Angola. The project aims to host around 30 digital firms by 2030, contributing to 25% of Cape Verde's GDP from digital services, and doubling technological employment, which boosts economic growth and reduces poverty through productive inclusion strategies.

In addition to its economic objectives, TechPark CV also aims to act as a catalyst for social impact, supporting social inclusion initiatives and local community development, as well as facilitating programs that empower young people to become digital entrepreneurs.

With its strategic location and ambitious goals, TechPark CV is poised to play a significant role in Cape Verde's digital future and the global tech industry.

The tech hub, TechPark CV, located in Cape Verde, aims to drive economic growth and sustainable development by positioning itself as a regional hub for emerging technologies in the fields of AI, blockchain, fintech, big data, and IoT.
