Breitling's Top Time B31 streamlines its design, dropping chronograph registers for a less complex and compact appearance.
Breitling Introduces a New Three-Hand Version of the Top Time B31
Breitling has unveiled a new addition to its Top Time collection, a three-hand, non-chronograph model powered by the B31 automatic time-date movement. This latest offering from the renowned watchmaker marks a departure from the chronograph registers found in previous Top Time models, allowing for a more compact design.
The Top Time B31 is housed in a sleek 38mm stainless steel case, a significant reduction from the previous 13.3mm thickness. This shrinkage makes the watch more wearable and comfortable for a wider range of wrists. The watch's design remains true to the Top Time series, with its distinctive orange second hand, numerals every five minutes on the outer ring, and a date window at the 3 o'clock position, complete with a cyclops bubble on top.
The B31 movement, built exclusively for Breitling by Sellita's AMT customs branch, is a COSC chronometer-certified automatic caliber with a impressive 78-hour power reserve. The watch is available in three dial colour options: white with a light blue minute track, blue with a white minute track, and green with a black minute track.
The Top Time B31 can be paired with a three-row stainless steel link bracelet with a lever-operated micro-adjustment system or a perforated racing-style leather strap. The colours of the straps are complementary to their respective dial: brown for the white dial, blue for the blue, and green for the green.
While Breitling has previously collaborated with car brands such as Shelby, Deus, Chevy, Triumph, and Ford, the latest collaborative efforts for the Top Time series remain undisclosed. However, past collaborations, such as the Breitling Top Time Deus and the Breitling Top Time Ford Mustang, have incorporated automotive elements to create unique timepieces.
Breitling, a pioneer in the chronograph sphere, has a rich history dating back to the creation of one of the first chronograph wristwatches with a separate pusher in 1915. The brand has also collaborated with various brands to honour classic nameplates through the watchmaking process.
The Top Time B31 is now available on Breitling's website, starting at $5,600, $5,900 on the steel bracelet. This makes it over two grand less than the cheapest chronograph Top Time watch, offering an accessible entry point into Breitling's Top Time collection.
