Bowling For Soup's New Single 'Holding on to That Hate' Recorded Exclusively on SSL Revival 4000
Grammy-nominated engineer Dan Malsch has recorded and mixed the first original single from Bowling For Soup in three years, 'Holding on to That Hate', using the new SSL Revival 4000 Signature Channel Strip. The single was recorded at Malsch's Soundmine Recording studio in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains.
Malsch, known for his work with bands like Ghost, Gojira, and Avenged Sevenfold, led the session. The Revival 4000 modules delivered the signature SSL '4K' sound, praised by pop punk luminaries like Green Day and Blink-182. The channel strip features Jensen transformer-balanced pre-amps, B Series de-esser, E/G Series EQ, HP/LF filters, and E Series dynamics section. Malsch found the de-esser to be a 'secret weapon' for smoothing out aggressive guitar frequencies. The Revival 4000 mic preamps provided more headroom than expected, allowing for harder driving without audio distortion. Bowling For Soup's lead vocalist, Jaret Reddick, described the bass sound achieved using the Revival 4000 as 'glorious'.
The collaboration between Solid State Logic, Bowling For Soup, and Dan Malsch resulted in the release of the stems from the recording session as a free download through the SSL website in September 2025.
The 'Holding on to That Hate' single, recorded and mixed exclusively using the SSL Revival 4000 channel strips, is now available as free stems for download from the SSL website. The Revival 4000 Signature Channel Strip has proven to be a powerful tool for capturing the signature SSL '4K' sound in modern recordings.
