Bombardier CS100 Completes Maiden Transatlantic Flight from LCY to JFK
The Bombardier CS100 has successfully completed its maiden non-stop transatlantic flight from London City Airport (LCY) to New York's John F Kennedy (JFK). This marks a significant milestone for the aircraft, which is set to revolutionise direct intercontinental flights between the two cities.
The CS100, designed for the 100- to 150-seat, single-aisle market, demonstrated its exceptional capabilities during a two-day period at LCY. It smoothly performed all eight take-offs and landings, confirming its unparalleled performance in challenging airport environments. This aircraft is claimed to be the only economically viable commercial option for direct intercontinental cheap flights between LCY and JFK.
The CS100, also known as the Swiss Global Air Lines HB-JBA, is expected to receive Transport Canada and EASA steep approach certifications in the second quarter of 2017. Once certified, the route will be operated by SWISS. In the past, SWISS has operated the CS100 on routes within Europe and North Africa, and it is possible that the aircraft will return to these services after the demonstration flight.
