Schmidt's appointment comes after a distinguished career within the BMW Group, spanning over 19 years. He has held various international leadership positions, including roles in international media relations and economic and financial communication. Prior to his current role, Schmidt led the Government and External Affairs department for over five years. During this tenure, he was responsible for BMW's global political representation and managed international offices.
In his previous role, Schmidt was instrumental in the global political representation of the Munich-based company and its international capital offices. However, his role did not involve any direct oversight of the company's sustainability approach. With his new position, Schmidt now defines goals and initiatives to meet the Paris Climate Agreement, as part of BMW's commitment to long-term sustainability and meeting international sustainability goals.
Schmidt's extensive experience within the BMW Group will undoubtedly prove invaluable in his new role.
