Peter Schiff Favors Bitcoin Over Ethereum Amid Market Surge

In the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrencies, renowned economist Peter Schiff has expressed his preference for Bitcoin over Ethereum. As the market witnesses a surge in recent trading sessions, Schiff's views remain steadfast, advising investors to sell Ethereum and buy Bitcoin instead.

Currently, Bitcoin's dominance is still higher than the year low but trending downwards, having hit an annual high of 65% on June 27, 2025, but decreasing since. In contrast, Ethereum's market share has grown to 12%, an increase of 3.25% in the same period.

Schiff perceives Ethereum as facing more legitimate competition in its use case, which undermines its narrative and long-term prospects compared to Bitcoin's perceived role as digital gold. He sees Ethereum's recent rallies as temporary "bear market rallies" within a longer-term decline relative to Bitcoin.

The surge in Bitcoin's price is attributed to whale transactions and heavier derivatives trading, while Ethereum's price has recently surpassed $4,000. Ethereum has been consolidating and nearing the top of its yearly range. Reports suggest that these activities have fueled this price action.

Schiff advises ETH holders to sell near Ethereum's upper trading range (~$3,700 to $4,000 in July-August 2025) and move proceeds into Bitcoin, which has shown stronger momentum and gains year-to-date 2025. Despite acknowledging short-term Ethereum rallies, Schiff remains skeptical about Ethereum’s long-term sustainability relative to Bitcoin.

While Schiff is critical of both Bitcoin and Ethereum, he sees Bitcoin as the lesser risk among the two cryptocurrencies. He continues to advocate for gold and gold-mining stocks as superior long-term investments compared to both Bitcoin and Ethereum, emphasizing gold’s fundamental demand and stability versus crypto's speculative nature.

Interestingly, Ethereum surpassed Bitcoin's percentage appreciation in the previous week. Schiff mentioned that Ether's surge occurred after his recommendation to transfer ETH to Bitcoin. Despite this, Bitcoin remains the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
