Automobile manufacturer Rivian initiates a recall for both its R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV models due to potential seat belt looseness issues.
In recent news, there has been some confusion regarding a potential seat belt recall for Rivian's R1T pickup trucks and R1S SUVs in both Canada and the United States. However, after a thorough investigation, it appears that there is no such recall announced for these vehicles as of July 2025.
The misconception arose due to a separate recall notice issued by Rivian for certain 2025 model year R1T and R1S vehicles, relating to a headlight issue. This defect, which could cause the low beam to fail to illuminate in cold weather, potentially increasing crash risk, has been the subject of much attention.
Contrary to some reports, the improper installation of front seat belts, which could lead to loosening or detachment under crash loads, increasing the risk of injury, is not the reason for a current recall for the Rivian R1T and R1S.
Rivian, the manufacturer of the R1T and R1S, has not issued a recall due to seat belt issues for vehicles manufactured between June 6, 2022, and April 10, 2025. The affected number of vehicles in Canada is 11, while in the United States, it stands at 536.
It is essential to clarify that the recall affects only a limited number of vehicles, and Rivian will inspect and, if necessary, repair affected vehicles free of charge. If you own an R1T or R1S and have concerns about the safety of your vehicle, it is advisable to check the NHTSA recall notice and Transport Canada recall information, which are available for download online.
In Canada, affected owners will receive an email to schedule a service visit. In the U.S., owners of potentially affected vehicles are advised to contact Rivian Service Support at 1-855-748-4265.
While it is crucial to stay informed about vehicle recalls, it is equally important to ensure that the information we receive is accurate and verified. In this case, there is no current seat belt recall for Rivian's R1T or R1S in the US or Canada.
