Australian Cybersecurity Games Set for Hosting at UNSW

The Australian Cybersecurity Games, a competition for university students across the country, is set to take place from September 2-30, 2024. Hosted by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in partnership with SECedu, this event promises to be a significant step towards fostering collaboration, innovation, and skill development among students pursuing careers in cybersecurity.

SECedu, an Australian network of educators and cybersecurity professionals, is running the games. The organisation was founded as a partnership between UNSW Sydney and Commonwealth Bank, and has expressed great excitement about hosting the event. SECedu Directors and UNSW Professor Richard Buckland have shared their enthusiasm for the competition, which will provide a platform for students to showcase their talents, learn from industry experts, and network with peers and professionals.

Participants will engage in various functions that simulate real-world cybersecurity scenarios, including cryptography, network security, and web vulnerabilities. The competition aims to encourage students to expand their knowledge and creativity, while also emphasising the importance of cybersecurity education.

SECedu is collaborating with leading cybersecurity employers to develop the workforce of tomorrow. By participating in the Australian Cybersecurity Games, students are not only securing their future careers, but also safeguarding the country's digital assets. As Professor Nigel Phair, SECedu Monash Lead, stated, students participating in these cybersecurity competitions are making a significant contribution to both their personal growth and national security.

The Australian Cybersecurity Games combines the talents of Australia's top computer science schools with the country's largest and most respected cyber security teams. University students from various institutions, including Canberra Institute of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Griffith University, Macquarie University, Monash University, University of Melbourne, University of Tasmania, UNSW, Western Sydney University, and The University of Queensland, will compete in the event.

Interested students can register online at the SECedu Conference website. This competition is a win-win initiative, fostering individual growth and national security. The Australian Cybersecurity Games 2024 promises to be an exciting event that will shape the future of cybersecurity in Australia.
