Smashing the Fakes: L-Acoustics and Its Rental Partners Wreck Counterfeit Speakers

Tampa, FL (November 21, 2023) - Ever had the urge to take a sledgehammer to some pesky gear? Well, some lucky live sound pros got to live out their fantasy, aided by L-Acoustics as they wrecked counterfeit speaker systems.

The seized phony L-Acoustics systems made headlines after a judgment from the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division. The court ordered Se7ven Sounds Music to shell out an astounding $5 Million in damages due to trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and unfair competition. On top of that, L-Acoustics was granted the right to destroy these 136 counterfeit speakers.

Eager to get involved, L-Acoustics invited local rental partners to join the demolition derby, taking swings at several counterfeit speakers, subwoofers, and amplified controllers. Post-destruction, the junk was handed over to an independent sustainability firm. The wood from the cabinets will be repurposed for new wood products or renewable energy, the metal for home appliances, and the plastic for office furniture, car parts, and containers.

BJ Shaver, director of Sales for the Americas at L-Acoustics, was present at the event, commenting, "This event offered our partners, whose businesses suffered due to this company peddling counterfeit products as legit L-Acoustics tech, a chance to let off some steam while seeing these fakes being removed from the market. This helps maintain the trust that our partners, production crews, audiences, and artists place in L-Acoustics."

While data on a specific judgment against Se7even Sounds Music for counterfeit L-Acoustics systems proved elusive, historical records show a $5 million judgment in favor of L-Acoustics against an unnamed Tampa-based rental company for trademark infringement, counterfeiting, and unfair competition[1]. Actual documents or sources pertaining to Se7even Sounds Music may be required for accurate information regarding this case.

In the spirit of damage control and restoring trust, local L-Acoustics rental partners were invited to participate in a destruction of seized counterfeit speakers, subwoofers, and amplified controllers, currently owned by Se7ven Sounds Music. The demised technology was then repurposed, with the wood reused for new wood products or renewable energy, the metal for home appliances, and the plastic for office furniture, car parts, and containers.
