Artificial grass is now being tended by a robot

In the heart of Germany, the city of Pforzheim is set to revolutionise its sports facilities with the introduction of an autonomous robot named BUKY ONE. This innovative machine will take over the maintenance of five artificial turf pitches, promising a more resilient, even, and playable surface for longer periods.

BUKY ONE, developed by Sandmaster, is a battery-operated robot that will work tirelessly to maintain the pitches. Each day, after its duties are complete, it returns to the operating yard of the Technical Services for recharging.

The use of BUKY ONE results in significant reductions in water and energy consumption, making it an environmentally friendly choice. The robot collects small metal parts using a magnet, preventing potential injuries or damage to the artificial turf surface.

Philipp Linde, the head of the Digital Administration department, hails this investment as a step towards sustainable innovation and a relief for the Technical Services. He believes that BUKY ONE is an investment in durable playing fields, providing clubs with more reliable playing time.

BUKY ONE's role in Pforzheim is part of a broader trend in Germany, with cities like Ulm and Frankfurt already benefiting from its maintenance capabilities. The robot uses brush and spring tine technology to loosen filling material, evenly distribute quartz sand, and stand up grass fibers, ensuring the pitches remain in top condition.

The maintenance cycle for one pitch takes approximately three and a half hours. This efficient process is a response to the growing demand for efficient and effective maintenance solutions. Pforzheim is the fifth city in Germany to work with BUKY ONE for maintaining artificial turf pitches.

The autonomous robot slows down automatically when it detects obstacles thanks to intelligent sensors, ensuring safety for all users. This modernisation and automation of maintenance processes are seen as a significant step towards strengthening sport in the city.

In conclusion, the introduction of BUKY ONE in Pforzheim marks a significant leap in sports facility maintenance, promising improved efficiency, cost savings, and a more sustainable approach to maintaining artificial turf pitches.

  1. BUKY ONE, an artificial-intelligence-driven robot, will not only maintain the five artificial turf pitches in Pforzheim's sports facilities but also improve efficiency and sustainability in sports, following the trend set by cities like Ulm and Frankfurt.
  2. After its day of tirelessly maintaining the pitches, BUKY ONE returns to the Technical Services for recharging, contributing to significant reductions in water and energy consumption, making it an environmentally friendly choice for sports facilities.
  3. With its ability to use brush and spring tine technology to loosen filling material, distribute quartz sand evenly, and stand up grass fibers, BUKY ONE ensures premium conditions for football games in European leagues such as the Premier League, providing clubs with more reliable playing time.
