Apple Expands Ecosystem: AirPlay 2 & HomeKit Coming to More TVs, Apple TV App Launches Globally
Apple has expanded its ecosystem with significant updates. AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support are coming to VIZIO, LG, and Sony smart TVs later this year. The new Apple TV app has launched globally, and Samsung smart TVs now support AirPlay 2. Additionally, Apple TV+ is set to debut this fall.
The Apple TV app, introduced today, brings together various video services in one place. It's now accessible in over 100 countries on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV with the latest iOS and tvOS updates.
AirPlay 2, which allows wireless streaming from Apple devices to compatible TVs, has been extended to Samsung smart TVs. Users can now update their iOS or macOS to 12.3 or 10.14.5 respectively to enjoy this feature.
Looking ahead, LG and Panasonic smart TVs will also support AirPlay 2 and HomeKit in the future. This will enable users to control their TVs and other HomeKit devices with the Apple Home app or Siri.
Apple's expansion of AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to more smart TVs, along with the launch of the new Apple TV app and upcoming Apple TV+ service, strengthens its position in the home entertainment market. These updates provide users with more flexibility and convenience in accessing and controlling their content.
