Anticipated Developments at Meta Connect: Exploration of Smart Glasses Equipped with Displays

Meta's Upcoming Smart Glasses: Hypernova and Oakley Meta Sphaera

Meta is set to unveil a new pair of smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova, at its Connect conference this year. According to reports, the Hypernova glasses will weigh around 70 grams, making them practical for everyday wear.

Unlike the Hypernova glasses, the focus of the Oakley Meta Sphaera glasses may not be on advanced display technology but on durability, lightweight design, and practical recording features. These glasses are rumored to be built for athletes and active users, with a centered camera for first-person video capture during activities like cycling.

Meta is also expected to introduce a new software development kit for smart glasses, which may enable third-party apps for devices like Hypernova and Oakley Meta Sphaera. This SDK could potentially support overlays such as live translations, AI-powered captions, and notifications.

The Hypernova glasses are rumored to feature a tiny heads-up display (HUD) in the right lens. This HUD is expected to display quick-glance information such as time, weather updates, navigation prompts, captions for conversations, or text answers from Meta's AI assistant.

Users will reportedly be able to control the Hypernova glasses via a wristband using electromyography sensors to read subtle finger movements. The pricing for the Hypernova glasses is rumored to start at around $800.

At the 2025 Meta Connect conference, besides Meta, no other companies have been officially announced yet as Horizon OS partners. The main event can be accessed live by registering for Meta's website, using the Live Stream feature, or via Horizon on Meta Quest headsets and on Facebook via Meta's official developer page.

Asus is rumored to be preparing a Republic of Gamers headset powered by Meta's Horizon OS. The Asus headset could include enthusiast-grade features such as advanced tracking, premium displays, and face or eye tracking.

During the main keynote of the 2025 Meta Connect conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to deliver the main address. Meta is also expected to showcase new features like more flexible home environments, improved handling of 2D apps, and the ability to share windows or apps with other users inside virtual spaces on its Horizon OS.

The Oakley x Meta smart glasses are now available to pre-order. For more information and updates, stay tuned to Meta's official channels.
