Anticipated Camera Launches in 2025: Officially Announced and Beyond!

Canon Announces Exciting Camera Releases for 2025

Canon, the world's most prolific photographic patenter for 41 consecutive years, is gearing up for an exciting year in 2025. The company has announced several new camera releases, targeting a broad spectrum from enthusiast mirrorless cameras to photography-centric compact models.

One of the most anticipated releases is the Canon EOS R6 Mark III, expected around August 2025. Leaked specs indicate that this flagship mirrorless camera will be the star of Canon’s product launch event. It is rumoured to feature a 24MP stacked sensor and a 5.69 million-dot viewfinder, making it a powerful tool for professional photographers.

Accompanying the R6 Mark III will be the Canon EOS R7 Mark II, announced in the same August 2025 event. This is the successor to the APS-C R7, expected to offer significant upgrades in autofocus, video, stabilization, and connectivity.

Canon is also rumoured to release a new "G" Series PowerShot, a photography-focused compact camera before the end of 2025. Unlike the video-oriented PowerShot V1, this new G series model will emphasize still photography, possibly combining aspects of the G3 X and G7 X lines. It is expected to have typical video features but focus more on photography usability, potentially including an EVF and flash, and a zoom range wider than the V1’s, with a price likely between $500 and $1000.

In addition to these releases, Canon is also working on a prototype 360° / 180° 3D VR Camera with 8K capture and VR live streaming capabilities.

Another interesting release is the Canon PowerShot V3, a follow-up to the V1 aimed at photographers. It is rumoured to have the same sensor but a longer 20x zoom lens (potentially reaching 500mm), geared towards still shooters with a fast burst rate.

Perhaps the most intriguing rumour is the Canon RE-1, a retro-styled EOS R mirrorless camera inspired by the classic AE-1 film camera. It is rumoured to possibly be announced in 2025 with a launch in 2026, coinciding with the AE-1’s 50th anniversary. The RE-1 is expected to have a 24MP sensor and a focus on photographic rather than video features.

These releases suggest that Canon is targeting a broad spectrum of photographers in 2025, with the biggest highlight being the simultaneous launch of the R6 Mark III and R7 Mark II in August 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting new releases!
