Android updates battery status alerts for headphones and earbuds

The recent update to Android’s headphones and earbuds battery notifications introduces a redesigned, more visual, and easier-to-read interface. This change was rolled out in early August 2025 through Google Play Services version 25.30.31.

Key features of the update include:

  • Color-coded rings around each earbud and case icon, indicating battery level visually. Green indicates charging, yellow signifies a battery level under 50%, and red indicates a low battery.
  • Small status icons at the top of each ring, such as a lightning bolt to signify charging or charging case activity, providing quick contextual information at a glance.
  • The battery percentage remains displayed below each device icon but is supplemented by these new visual cues, making it easier to assess each component's power level instantly.
  • The charging case’s battery status is now shown explicitly with its own ring and charging indicators, a feature not available previously.

The revamped design aligns with the ring-style battery indicators first introduced on Pixels with Android 15 QPR2, but now the update extends to all Android devices. The compact battery notification (showing all percentages in a single line) remains unchanged, preserving familiarity for users who prefer that layout.

This UI overhaul started rolling out around August 8–10, 2025, and is widely available across Android devices capable of updating Google Play Services to the specified version.

In summary, Android’s headphone and earbud battery notifications have evolved from simple numeric percentages to an intuitive, color-coded, icon-enhanced system designed for quicker, clearer battery status recognition, enhancing user experience universally across Android devices.

  1. Users can now easily identify the battery levels of their smartphones, earbuds, and other gadgets more efficiently, as Android's revamped battery notifications feature color-coded rings and icons.
  2. The new battery notification system, available on all Android devices, improves the overall user experience by providing a more visual and intuitive way to monitor the power levels of smartphones and various gadgets like earbuds, thanks to the addition of color-coded rings and icons.
