Let's Dive into Germany's Bargain Hunt: Amazon's 'Haul' Takes on Temu

Amazon introduces a rival for Temu through its own discounted goods section

In the world of e-commerce, the battle for bargains has heated up. Chinese retailers like Shein and Temu, notorious for dumping prices and questionable product quality, have given their Western counterparts a run for their money. But the giant online retailer, Amazon, is stepping up its game by launching its own budget-friendly section, aptly named 'Haul', in Germany. So, what's the deal?

From now on, you can join the bargain hunt right on Amazon's portal. The company promises a treasure trove of cheap deals in the new 'Haul' section. Excited? Well, according to Amazon Germany CEO, Rocco Brauniger, this section is all about helping customers in Germany find fantastic deals on products at rock- bottom prices.

Haul will feature products from the fashion, home, and lifestyle categories. Amazon claims that thousands of products, with most priced under 10 euros and many for just 20 euros or less, will be available. Haul has already been a hit in the USA since November 2021 and in the UK since early May 2022. The English word 'Haul' means to catch or acquire, fitting perfectly for this section.

So, where can you find these awesome deals? Haul is seamlessly integrated into the existing online store and will initially be available for selected customers in the app, Amazon announced. In the coming weeks, it will be accessible to all other customers. To snag the offers, simply enter 'Haul' in the search field or find it via the symbol in the main menu.

Amazon vs. Temu: Fighting for Market Share

Amazon, the market leader, is feeling the heat in the competition. Rising stars like Temu have been making significant strides in Germany. E-commerce expert Alexander Graf of software company Spryker noted that wherever Temu succeeds, Amazon needs a response, and that's what Haul is supposed to be.

Amazon aims to attract customers with additional discounts. From a shopping cart value of 50 euros, there is a five percent discount, and from 75 euros, there's a ten percent discount. Amazon sells the products itself, not from third-party sellers. The items are directly shipped from its logistics center in China to the customers. Orders are promised within two weeks, and delivery up to 25 euros is free, with a 3.50 euro fee for orders above that. Customers can return articles within 15 days without incurring extra costs.

Amazon assures that the products offered on Haul have gone through necessary quality controls, so customers can trust receiving safe, compliant products in line with all regulations and Amazon's guidelines.

While Amazon hasn't officially announced a broader rollout of Haul, industry insiders are keeping a close eye on the situation, particularly the growth of platforms like Temu and Shein. With a focus on English-speaking markets currently, Haul may soon expand to other regions, such as Germany, as Amazon closely monitors market dynamics. A full rollout in the UK is expected within weeks, with plans for a wider European launch by the end of 2025. Concrete dates for countries like Germany or beyond Europe have yet to be released.

Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new development in the world of e-commerce!
