AI Transparency Embraced: Sheikh Hamdan Unveils New Iconic Designs Focused on Clarity in AI

In a significant stride towards promoting transparency and ethical AI usage, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, unveiled the "Human-Machine Collaboration Icons" on July 16, 2025. This innovative classification system, developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, aims to bring clarity to the collaboration between humans and AI in research, publications, and content creation.

The system consists of five primary icons that indicate the degree of collaboration, ranging from content created entirely by humans to content generated solely by AI. Nine functional sub-icons further specify the precise stages in which AI was involved, such as ideation, writing, translation, design, data analysis, and visuals.

The introduction of these icons comes at a time when AI technology is rapidly developing, particularly in content creation. The system aims to increase accountability and clarity in an era where distinguishing between human and machine contributions can be challenging.

The new icons are intended for use in all intellectual and creative work during the research process, content creation, publication design, and related outputs. The scope of the icons includes academic papers, research articles and reports, data visualisations, books, articles, visual content, art, educational materials, and technical documentation.

Dubai government entities have been directed to implement these icons in all future research and knowledge-based activities, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and ethical research. The system supports trust and ethics in AI use, aiding the public, researchers, and consumers in understanding AI’s involvement in content production.

The "Human-Machine Collaboration Icons" serve as a global standard, encouraging researchers, writers, publishers, designers, and institutions worldwide to disclose AI’s role in their work responsibly. The Dubai Future Foundation invites the global community to provide feedback on the icons, designs, and classifications.

The UAE's efforts in AI have resulted in the establishment of start-ups, partnerships, and investments from industry leaders. During US President Donald Trump's visit to the UAE in May, both countries agreed to increase collaboration on AI and unveiled plans for a new 5-gigawatt UAE-US AI campus in Abu Dhabi. The AI campus will be built by UAE AI company G42 in Abu Dhabi and run in partnership with several US firms.

The new icons are part of a series of developments in the region related to AI. The technology presents ethical and philosophical questions about whether AI use should be disclosed and to what extent. By clearly classifying collaboration levels, the system addresses these concerns, fostering a responsible and transparent AI ecosystem.

  1. The "Human-Machine Collaboration Icons," a global standard, have been introduced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, encouraging individuals and institutions worldwide to responsibly disclose the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in their work.
  2. These icons, developed by the Dubai Future Foundation, span a wide range of industries including academic publications, art, educational materials, and technical documentation, aiming to increase transparency and accountability in a rapidly advancing AI-driven economy.
  3. The UAE, focusing on AI developments, has established partnerships and start-ups that have attracted investment from industry leaders. One such initiative is the upcoming 5-gigawatt UAE-US AI campus in Abu Dhabi, a collaboration between G42 and several US firms, following US President Donald Trump's visit to the UAE in May.
  4. In the realm of world news, Dubai government entities have been directed to implement the "Human-Machine Collaboration Icons" in all future research and knowledge-based activities, signifying a commitment to ethical AI usage and fostering trust in the AI ecosystem.
