AI service provider OpenAI launches ChatGPT-5, offering it freely to all users, asserting improved intelligence over previous versions.

In a groundbreaking development, OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT-5, a new version of its popular AI model. This latest iteration represents a significant leap forward in artificial intelligence (AI) capability, offering enhanced intelligence, faster processing, and improved safety features.

Sam Altman, co-founder and chief executive of OpenAI, anticipates that the ability to create software programs on demand, known as "vibe-coding", will be a "defining part of the new ChatGPT-5 era."

One of the key advancements in ChatGPT-5 is its unified system. This system dynamically decides whether to respond quickly or engage in deeper reasoning based on context and user intent, offering a more human-like interaction experience. According to Michelle Pokrass of the development team, GPT-5 feels like talking to a PhD-level expert in any topic.

Compared to its predecessor, GPT-4, ChatGPT-5 offers several improvements. It switches between fast, efficient answers and deeper, multi-step reasoning automatically, optimizing response based on task complexity without user guesswork. GPT-5 reliably chains multiple tool calls to execute complex, real-world, multi-step tasks end-to-end, outperforming prior benchmarks in agentic tasks.

In terms of speed and efficiency, GPT-5's deep reasoning mode achieves better results with 50-80% fewer output tokens, enhancing speed and lowering computational cost. It demonstrates state-of-the-art performance across mathematical reasoning, coding, and scientific domains with improved context recognition, structured thinking, and solving ambiguous problems.

Safety and reliability have also been significantly enhanced. Hallucinations are significantly reduced, and the model is more honest about its limitations and respects safety boundaries while providing maximally helpful answers.

OpenAI has made ChatGPT-5 available for free to all users of the AI tool. In a partnership with the US General Services Administration, the US government will have access to ChatGPT Enterprise for a year for just $1. The company has also released two new AI models, gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, for free download and alteration.

The release of ChatGPT-5 comes in the context of a global race over artificial intelligence technology. Google and Microsoft are investing billions in developing AI systems, and OpenAI's decision to share the inner workings of its software in the form of these new models is a response to this pressure.

Altman cautioned that there is still work to be done to achieve the kind of artificial general intelligence (AGI) that thinks the way people do. However, with its expert-level intelligence that integrates speed, accuracy, safety, and reasoning depth into a single, adaptable AI system, ChatGPT-5 sets a new standard for AI performance.

OpenAI has demonstrated ChatGPT-5's capabilities in various fields, including coding, writing, healthcare, and more. For instance, it was used to create an app for learning French. Despite these advancements, it's crucial to remember that ChatGPT-5, like all AI models, is a tool, and its outputs should be verified and validated before being used in real-world applications.

In conclusion, ChatGPT-5 represents a major leap in AI capability, combining faster, more efficient, and more accurate outputs with a unique thinking router that mirrors expert human problem-solving across a wide variety of complex tasks. As we continue to explore and develop AI technology, it's exciting to see what the future holds for this rapidly evolving field.
