SynthEyes 2025.5, the latest version of the popular 3D tracking software developed by Boris FX, has been released. This new iteration introduces several key features and improvements aimed at enhancing tracking accuracy, workflow speed, and export reliability.

One of the most significant additions is ML Motion Estimation, a new AI-powered mode for automatic tracking. Leveraging machine learning technology, this feature estimates optical flow between frames, providing an alternative to traditional feature-based tracking methods. It excels on shots with smooth surfaces, rapid motion, low contrast, lighting changes, or occlusion, and produces precise 3D camera solves faster.

The Lens Workflow Export feature streamlines and stabilises the export of lens calibration data, making it robust and consistent across different applications. This eliminates fragility and guesswork in lens profile exports, ensuring plug-and-play compatibility in compositing pipelines.

Another notable feature is Parent Mesh to Tracker, which allows users to parent 3D meshes directly to individual trackers. This significantly speeds up layout and iteration by enabling fast object attachment to tracked points, reducing manual adjustments and enhancing workflow efficiency.

SynthEyes 2025.5 also includes an improved AI-assisted mask creation tool called Mask ML. This tool integrates with the motion estimation features, allowing for better automated generation of mattes that follow tracked motion, improving mask quality and saving time compared to manual rotoscoping.

The new version of SynthEyes also handles lens distortion across major platforms, providing consistent results. Additionally, a dedicated LUTs folder has been added, and the software comes with a Branding Toolkit, tutorial videos, and more.

Subscribers to SynthEyes or Boris FX Suite, or those with active upgrade & support plans, will receive the 2025.5 product release as a complimentary update. The software is available with subscription, perpetual, and upgrade & support renewal options, with prices starting at $325/year or $62/month.

Moritz Fortmann, product manager of SynthEyes, expressed excitement about the new Lens Workflow export and Parent Mesh to Tracker features. He also noted that these improvements strengthen SynthEyes' position as a powerful tool for matchmove artists in VFX pipelines.
